Introduction
Manage Design Build was founded by Matt Thompson after thirty-eight years in construction, including fifteen years managing large commercial and high-rise projects from design through to handover. MDB was created to bring that experience into a smaller, hands-on business — where the people pricing and managing the project remain directly involved throughout its delivery.
OUR APPROACH
We manage the programme, cost, consultants, procurement and delivery, keeping responsibility clear from beginning to end.
We challenge every design before we build it. Structure, buildability and sequencing are reviewed early, because a project is won or lost at the design stage.
Every stage of the build is planned daily, weekly and monthly, and every project is statused weekly. That’s how we deliver on quality and on time.
OUR ETHOS
We believe the best projects come from construction experience being involved in the decisions that affect cost, programme and buildability. Sometimes that means finding a more efficient solution. Sometimes it means changing the sequence or methodology. And sometimes the design is already right and our job is simply to build it properly. Whatever our role, we communicate early, price honestly and deal with issues before they become bigger problems on site.

The team
A small, experienced team, and the same people from your first call through to handover.
DIRECTOR
Matt founded Manage Design Build after thirty-eight years in construction, fifteen of them managing large commercial and high-rise projects from design through to handover. He remains directly involved in pricing and delivery, bringing decades of commercial construction experience to every project MDB takes on.
SITE MANAGER / PROJECT MANAGER
Dan came up through the trade, starting as a carpenter before moving into site supervision and then project management. He has spent the past decade in commercial construction across retail refurbishment, school upgrades and extensions, and multi-storey storage and logistics facilities. He would rather be on site than behind a desk, which is how we think a job should be run — problems found early and dealt with on the spot.
PROJECT COORDINATOR
With a background in architecture and construction management, Mariana coordinates MDB projects across documentation, procurement, approvals and delivery. Working between the design, commercial and construction sides of the project, she keeps consultants, trades and documentation coordinated and the project moving.
Commercial and Project Management
Zach brings a decade in construction management and commercial management on major apartment, hotel, office and logistics projects. He works to manage and deliver projects — tender negotiation and procurement, contract administration, cost control and forecasting, and resolving the issues that stall a job long before they reach the site.
Interior Design
Sarah leads interiors for MDB through her own practice, Sarah Wood Designs. She works with clients from early concept through to the last fitting and finish, which is why our clients tend to stay closely involved right through a build. Her work has brought MDB projects in its own right.
Sales and Developments
Bob leads sales for MDB’s development side, managing land acquisitions and working through feasibilities for MDB developments and joint venture projects.
We assemble the right consultant team for each project rather than carrying one on the payroll. We work regularly with Skeco, JCB Architects, McLaren Design, PT Engineers, Adams and Sparks Planners, DRW Civil, Pinnacle Certification, Verve Design Group and Adams Engineers — people we’ve worked alongside long enough that the coordination is already there before a job starts.
We work for government and education through QBuild, for private schools including Blackall Range Independent School, for developers including SKF Developments, and for community and faith organisations including the Anglican Church Gympie and the Gympie Historical Scout Association.
